About the Bridgham Technology Institute
The Bridgham Technology Institute (BTI) is an advanced research division of Bridgham Cyber for cybersecurity and artificial intelligence research. We study the security of America's regulated and semi-regulated companies: community banks, credit unions, lenders, law firms and investment advisers.
We register each study before a result exists, publish under open protocols on OSF, and draw on public records and the anonymised engagement data of the firm's clients to produce new tactics, techniques and procedures for defenders. Our findings reach the boards, examiners and insurers who decide how these firms are protected.
Our researchers hold first authorship on their work, present it at conferences at the Institute's expense, and work alongside practitioners who see the problems first hand.
About the role
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Bridgham Technology Institute. The Fellow leads one registered study a year from design to publication: the pre-registration, the dataset, the analysis, the paper and the data page. The Fellow holds first authorship on that work, presents it at one conference a year at the Institute's expense, and supervises the Institute's doctoral research fellows on the study.
Responsibilities
- Design and pre-register one Institute study a year
- Build the dataset and run the analysis to the Institute's open protocol
- Write the paper and the public data page, and hold first authorship
- Supervise the doctoral research fellows assigned to the study
- Present the work at one conference a year
Who you will work with
The Fellow reports to the Institute's head of research and works with the research associate, the doctoral research fellows, and the delivery team that anonymises engagement data.
You may be a good fit if you
- Hold a doctorate in computer science, information systems, statistics, economics, finance or a related quantitative field, completed within the last 5 years
- Have at least 1 published or accepted paper as first author
- Are comfortable with Python and open data, and with pre-registration
- Write clearly for a regulator, a board and a referee
Strong candidates may also have
- Prior work on financial-sector cyber risk, bank regulation or operational resilience
- Experience with FDIC, NCUA, HMDA or NMLS data
- A record on OSF, arXiv or SSRN
- Teaching or supervision experience

Selection
Applications to the Bridgham Technology Institute are highly competitive. The Institute receives many applications from candidates whose training and publication record meet or exceed those listed, and it is not able to offer a position to every qualified applicant.
Once an applicant clears the qualification gate, selection rests on fit with the Institute's methods and standards of evidence, and on the candidate's prospects for long-term success as a researcher here. Those judgments are made by the researchers the candidate would work with.
The Institute reserves the right to decline any application, to close a search at any stage, and to extend an offer to a candidate from any source. Decisions are final and the Institute does not provide reasons.
The Bridgham Technology Institute, a division of Bridgham Cyber, is an equal opportunity employer and engages contractors on the same basis. The Institute considers qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability or veteran status.
How to apply
