About the Bridgham Technology Institute

The Bridgham Technology Institute (BTI) is an advanced research division of Bridgham Cyber for cybersecurity and artificial intelligence research. We study the security of America's regulated and semi-regulated companies: community banks, credit unions, lenders, law firms and investment advisers.

We register each study before a result exists, publish under open protocols on OSF, and draw on public records and the anonymised engagement data of the firm's clients to produce new tactics, techniques and procedures for defenders. Our findings reach the boards, examiners and insurers who decide how these firms are protected.

Our researchers hold first authorship on their work, present it at conferences at the Institute's expense, and work alongside practitioners who see the problems first hand.

About the role

We are seeking Doctoral Research Fellows to join the Bridgham Technology Institute. The Fellow is a current doctoral student who works on an Institute study alongside their degree. The Fellow builds datasets, runs analyses and drafts sections under the supervision of a postdoctoral fellow or the head of research, and is credited as an author on the published work. Hours fit around the academic calendar.

Responsibilities

  • Build and document datasets from public records
  • Run analyses and reproductions to the Institute's open protocol
  • Draft sections of the paper and the data page
  • Present progress at the Institute's fortnightly research meeting

Who you will work with

The Fellow reports to a postdoctoral fellow or the head of research and works with the research associate and the other doctoral fellows.

You may be a good fit if you

  • Are enrolled in a doctoral program in computer science, information systems, statistics, economics, finance, public policy or a related field
  • Are comfortable with Python and open data
  • Can commit 10 to 20 hours a week for at least 2 semesters
  • Write clearly

Strong candidates may also have

  • Coursework or research in security, risk or financial regulation
  • Experience with SQL or R alongside Python
  • A working paper or conference submission

Selection

Applications to the Bridgham Technology Institute are highly competitive. The Institute receives many applications from candidates whose training and publication record meet or exceed those listed, and it is not able to offer a position to every qualified applicant.

Once an applicant clears the qualification gate, selection rests on fit with the Institute's methods and standards of evidence, and on the candidate's prospects for long-term success as a researcher here. Those judgments are made by the researchers the candidate would work with.

The Institute reserves the right to decline any application, to close a search at any stage, and to extend an offer to a candidate from any source. Decisions are final and the Institute does not provide reasons.

The Bridgham Technology Institute, a division of Bridgham Cyber, is an equal opportunity employer and engages contractors on the same basis. The Institute considers qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability or veteran status.
